Creative Writing

(Suitable for P2-P4 students)

 

Our highly popular and fun Creative Writing Christmas Course not only teaches children how to write, but also how to think creatively. This course helps to keep children enthusiastic and engaged with writing in English. Children will also learn to pair writing with other areas such as art and drama to inspire more imaginative and fresh ideas. This intensive course uses some of the best lessons extracted from the British Curriculum, taught by our highly qualified Senior Native English Teachers from the UK.

 

Group 1: 16.30–18.30, 14 Dec, 15 Dec, 16 Dec and 18 Dec

 

Group 2: 09.30-11.30, 28 Dec, 29 Dec, 30 Dec and 31 Dec

 

* Students are encouraged to attend all 4 days, but it is possible to attend only selected classes.

 

 

What will children learn?

 

• Find passion in writing creatively

• Use new vocabulary learnt

• Use drama skills

• Overcome confidence issues related to writing & performing

• Link English with other subjects such as arts

• Adopt writing strategies for work at school and at home

 

 

Teaching Methods

 

• Interactive: using a range of resources; including role-play, thinking aloud, story re-telling, art, videos, music and sound to create an environment full of ideas and inspiration.Use new vocabulary learnt

• Fun: Lessons are consistently punctuated with literacy games / activities to help underscore the strategies learned.

 

Fees

 

$2,000 for 4 days ($250 per hour). Fees include:

• Tuition provided by UK Qualified Native English Teacher

• All materials required for the classes

• Professional assessment prior to lesson begins

• Literacy expert teacher's advice for parents before & after the course 

 

Reading Comprehension

(Suitable for P2-P4 students)

 

This intensive reading comprehension course offers engaging classroom approaches and advocates expanding opportunities for children to speak, listen, read and write in academic/book language. Fun learning approaches cover key skills and explore an amazing array of texts chosen by specially trained literacy teachers from the UK. Using up to date inference strategies developed in the UK / US, teachers aim to improve reading attainment and enjoyment in young children. 

 

Date: 10.30–12.30, 19 Dec, 21 Dec, 22 Dec and 22 Dec

What will children learn?

 

• Find passion in reading English books and become effective readers

• Overcome confidence issues related to reading tricky words and texts

• Adopt reading strategies that they will be able to take with them to school and at home

• Use their background knowledge to connect to texts

• Find information in texts

• Use inference skills

• Predict and ask relevant questions

• Understand clues and meaning in reading

 

 

Teaching Methods

 

• Interactive: Using a range of resources, including role-play, thinking aloud, story re-telling and graphic organisers; students create aids such as mind-movies in order to generate inference predictions and visualisations. In addition, key strategies are broken down into easy-to-remember flashcards, which are used continuously throughout the course to cement the children’s knowledge of the comprehension skills used.

• Fun: Lessons are consistently punctuated with literacy games / activities to help underscore the strategies learned.
